Fall is upon us, Wheeling! Feel the yellow, orange and red leaves crunch underfoot on your morning run through Heritage Park and smell the cider in the air. The year’s most colorful season calls for a classic autumnal past time: apple picking. Here’s our official guide to the best apple picking in the Chicago suburbs:
Heinz Orchard is located next to Libertyville. They are a small, no-frills family-run orchard. When you visit Heinz, it’s all about the apple picking. This year, their crop includes McIntosh, Empire and Jonathon variety apples—all at half price for 2019 only.

Stade’s Farm and Market is all about family fun. Their pick-your-own apple orchard is accompanied by a farm market with specialty and gourmet foods and gifts, as well as their Farmtractions Theme Park. They also host their own Shades of Autumn Fall Festival from September 7 through October 27.

All Seasons Orchard is an all-seasons, all-kinds-of-fun orchard offering apple picking, pumpkin picking and even a corn maze. Their Barnyard Fun Family Activities also include a petting zoo, mini zip line, pedal carts and more.
All Seasons Orchard is located at 14510 IL Route 176, Woodstock, IL 60098. They are open daily September through October, from 10 AM – 5 PM on weekdays and 10 AM – 6 PM on weekends.
Homestead Orchard has kept the farming tradition running on a plot of land that has remained an orchard for over a century. They have one of the oldest apple trees in McHenry country, and feature breeds of heirloom apples not familiar to most among the 23 varieties of apples offered on their farm.
