Only a Metra Away: Free Things to Do in Millenium Park
May 10, 2019

ONE is located literally steps from the Wheeling Metra station, and visiting Chicago has never been more convenient. With the train right outside your door, it’s easy to take advantage of all the city has to offer. This summer, Millennium Park is hosting an array of free events that are definitely worth the trip.

Summer Musical Festivals

If you’re looking for music-in-the-park experiences, Millennium Park has got you covered with their summer music festivals. Five festivals and other smaller events give plenty of options for all types of music lovers. Kicking off the season is the 4th Annual Chicago House Music Conference & Festival, May 23-25. The 24th Chicago Gospel Music Festival follows shortly after on May 31 & June 1. The ever-popular Chicago Blues Festival returns for its 36th annual year June 7-9. And to really mix things up, the 5th Annual Chicago Mariachi Festival occurs on June 30. Finally, to top off the season, the beloved 41st Annual Chicago Jazz Festival fills the entire week from August 23-September 1.

Summer Film Series

Millennium Park’s Summer Film Series is the new drive-in theatre. Pack your picnic blanket and some snacks, and join the Chicago community as everyone gathers on the Great Lawn before the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. There’s no experience quite like seeing a hometown classic such as last year’s Blues Brothers feature in the city it was made. This year, films featured include Black Panther, 10 Things I Hate About You, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and more. Catch a new feature every Tuesday at 6:30 pm; you can view the full film schedule here.

Millennium Park Summer Workouts

Coming into the city on the weekend? Don’t think that just because you’re taking a mini-trip means you need to skip your daily workout. Get all geared up to explore the city with Millennium Park’s Summer Workout series. Gather on the Great Lawn any Saturday morning from May 25-August 31. Workouts last 45 minutes, with new classes beginning every hour. Starting at 7 am is Tai Chi, followed each hour by Yoga, Pilates and finally Zumba at 10 am.
